The Gravity of the Situation

History was made today.
You can feel the gravity when five petabytes of information,
Become a single pixelated digital image-
Burning like the Eye of God!

Now we have seen over the brink,
A brilliant mass of high-speed particles,
Illuminating the dark shadow- Black on black!

Accretion Disk and Event Horizon,
Dance with each other in a cosmic Tango-
Whirling Dervishes in space!

Einstein, Sagan and Hawkins never saw,
But always felt,
This hole that falls forever,
Because mass warps space and slows time.

Perhaps, we have seen our future,
Or maybe, finally, Vishnu.
For we have seen the power that is gravity,
And its burning brilliance,
Is become as Death,
The Destroyer of Worlds.

Yet this death is vital as the central focus,
Around which galaxies and life congregate,
In space and time with mass.

The Death of Opportunity

Gate to Seoul

Mars is a killer.

First it took our Spirit,
Now it ends Opportunity.
Through the miles and storms and dust,
We called out to you my friend,
But you would not, could not answer.
Deep Space awaits the news,
Billie Holiday sings the blues.
You changed the night sky for me.
Now when I see that fire red twinkle,
I’ll be looking at Mars,
But I’ll Be seeing You.

Star Tripping

Someone thought it was a good idea
To send out into space,
A golden map of where to look
To find the human race.
On top of that it also told
In a hundred fifteen languages no less
That we are completely disunited-
A multicultural polyglot mess.
It told about our resources
In pictures, graphics, and sound.
The more I learn about this Voyager,
The more mysteries abound.
“Through adversity to the stars” it says
In Latin- English Morse code.
The adversity likely starts when THEY
Follow it back to our abode.
Sagan called this message in a bottle,
Our planet’s cosmic hope.
That in fact may well be true
Until our overlords say “Nope!”
History says that the ones who travel,
Be that upon waves or celestial seas,
Are the one who rules the others
In their colonies.
So please don’t think it an evil whim
When I say, though they may travel far,
I prefer that, rather than being found by Them,
Both Voyagers smash into a star.
